It was great fun for Us! The warmth of doll lovers from all over the states; meeting once again the familiar faces from BJDC 2006, making new friendly friends (esp. Melaine) and all the friendliness and warmth sheltered to us by the committee members esp. the great hospitality from the organizer, Sherri Rhein and Husband.
Day 1 (18/09/08): At 7pm, there was a Reception Buffet Dinner with the set up of Dolls’ Maker Display in the same room. For this, the very first thing that caught my attention was this gorgeous doll. He is huge and he was holding a tiny baby on his hand that makes him so gentle and kind to me! I love his outfit image too. The orange and blue outer coat just makes him so cheerful to own!
Disclaimer: I am sorry that I did not get the name of the owner to credit this to her but I did get her permission to take this picture. However, if the owner of this doll finds this inappropriate, please write to us and we will remove it immediately. We give full respect to doll owners.
And as for Domuya, we brought along 4 of our gorgeous ladies to meet all the doll lovers at Texas!
From left to right: Alice on Flexi Perennial body. Azziza, The Forest Witch (Dreaming Version). Azziza, The Forest Witch (Dark Version) and Faith – Sister of Domuya’s Star “Fin”.
Both Azziza are OOAK dolls made to commerate our return to BJDC since 2006. Dreaming Azziza is put on auction and the proceeds are given to fund BJDC. While Dark Azziza is adopted at the MDC where we visited a week later at St. Petersburg. Faith is the limelight at BJDC! She was actually unnamed at this moment because she was put up for a naming competition. But she definitely did her sister proud because her sister is no others, but Domuya’s Superstar - Fin!
And the next that caught my attention is this Charlin Chaplin Figure sculpted by Rainman (from Elfdoll). He speaks to me because, we do customized one of our doll to be Charlie Chaplin for the “At the movie” theme competition! So when I see a miniature of him, I just got excited! He is indeed a beautiful sculpt!
And at 9pm, we have the room shopping! Well, we have closed our room sales the next day because Candy wants to go shopping! So we were only open for a night and I would like to say, I just think shopping this way cannot get any better! The lighting is dimmed, so the rooms are cozy and it feels romantic and warm to have all the dollies standing around in our room meeting guests as they come along!
Day 2 (19/09/09): At 6am, we are already at the sales floor doing the setup for our booth! We are not tired at all because all the dollies in my room has been screaming with excitement even before the sky are bright! They are all very excited because all the preparation they have been through, they are waiting for just this one moment! To be able to meet all the doll lovers in person and to speak to them! No more having to communicate through the screen! And for us, we know we cannot afford to lose any seconds because we really need 4-5 hours to set up the booth. As we ship our dolls in their bare necessity, outfits that will not caused any damage or be damaged while shipping can first be worn on the dolls for those that will be staged. But armours, wigs, the setup of the booth will all have to be done that morning itself. So no time can be lost before the sales floor is opened at 10am! We did steal some time beforehand because we prepared the dolls the day before in our room. But do not ask me why, we still used up the complete 4 hours to set up!
About the blur pictures, only 2 reasons that I can think of is: (1) The camera is still sleeping, he’s in holiday mood. Too cold from the room air-conditional that it is not functioning well. (2) We were in such a rush because we barely finish on time before the sales floor is opened.
Our Dirge of Glory dolls was so well-received during the convention that many has been adopted and some has to go on reservations! We have with us from highest to lowest level: Queen Maeve, King Navan, Rook Magdel, Rook Marlene, Knight Grimir, Knight Aeslin, Bishop Divon (a little out of picture), Dark Night Aeslin and Dark Knight Grimir (that was limited edition of 5 each and to be sold only at BJDC and MDC).
Partial of Bishop Divon and be seen here! And this is our little accessories corner! With some wigs, shoes, our Signature “Desire” Lingerie and our busts and doll heads that is not usually sold at our website! All special just for conventions!
And another picture of the King to give him the respect as being the highest rank & noble man in Dirge of Glory! And the rest of the activities are not sold because our hands are busy at our booth!
At 4pm, we’ll have to send our Charlie Chaplin to the Competition corner! And guess who did I find there? I found a family member – FIN! She was acting as Moulin rouge and she did do us proud! She was the 1st prize for the “At The Movie” theme and indeed, she has become a Star!
And once again, I did not get the name of the owner! When I get all excited, I just forgot about my job! So my company has told me this (next time, during conventions, if I come across any of our family members, I must give the owner a surprise gift!) What a good idea huh, then maybe you can come to me and remind me! So amidst my fun and joy, I wouldn’t forget what I would need to do! Lolx
And here goes our Charlie Chaplin! He is a Divon/Magdel headmould. We just dress him up in our customized Charlie Chaplin outfit and gave him a little moustache! He did us proud too! He won himself a little trophy! We only made 5 of his outfits in total and he should still be available at The Doll Peddlar. Doll Peddlar also adopted the OOAK Charlie Chaplin.
Amongst some of the entries that I personally like them a lot are “The Edward Scissors Hands” entry and one that reminds me of “The Nightmare before Christmas” and not forgetting the wonderful work of Val Zeitler whom she herself is already a walking signage of her work!
Then from 5-7pm it is dinner on our own. We’ve decided to explore a little and went to this Steak House “Texas Land & Cattle”. They served such wonderful steak that they are worth mentioning amidst my after report for BJDC 2008!
A snap of the restaurant deco while waiting for our food!
Its so good that I forgot to take pictures before I proceed! That always happened to me when I get overly-excited. Hehe…and after one bite, its so good that I must ditto it! We have been back here a couple more time before we left Texas for St. Petersburg. We were so indulge with our meal that we were back late to pick up our Charlie Chaplin! But all thanks to the wonderful baby-sitter, Sherri Rhein! Not only has she been busy running on the floor making sure everything is alright, she too took the effort to babysit our Charlie! Thanks Sherri!
As mentioned earlier, 9pm is my shopping time, my shopping day! So Domuya’s salesroom is closed and I was out shopping by room number! It was so fun! While rooming around, I came across this wonderful collection of Melanie’s. And its also because of this, that we build a friendship and she has been terribly sweet to us throughout! Look at her wonderful collection:
And under her influence, I’ve adopted myself an animal BJD too! Urgh~~~bad influence Melanie! Lolz…
Day 3 (20/09/08): As majority of the set up was down on Day 2, sales floor are opened to vendors at 8:30am. Sales has been great and we were busy! I didn’t get the chance to do much of my personal shopping but I picked up a lovely handmade Panda bear by Christy Stone of Xtreme dolls! I just melt for handmade pandas and she is just opposite my booth! So her lovely panda has been calling out to me all the while!
Lastly, the day proceeded very fast and people are reluctant to leave the sales floor. Everyone has enjoyed themselves very much! Then its time to teardown the salesroom and get prepared for the Movies Ballroom & Dinner at 7pm. Announcement of the winner from voting results for the theme “At the Movie” competition will be announced then too! And doing us proud, is of course our “Star” Fin – Moulin Rouge.
Look at her! Isn’t she simply gorgeous standing at the Red Carpet? Then I was to go onto the stage and announce the winner for the naming competition of the current “Faith”.
Ok, I am really reluctant to put up this picture here cause I really look too shaq and with my ungroomed hair! Please pardon me because we flew over almost immediately after our wedding ceremony in Singapore and my hair has been spoilt by all the different types of hair styling during my wedding. I will put up my wedding BJD customized doll in my next posting ok?
So from the picture above, I was saying that that there was no one “exact” winner because we did not actually use any of the name given our contestants. The one that actually gave us the inspiration was actually the suggestion given by Patti Eacret. She wrote this on the piece of paper: “Feather of a bird, Fin of a Fish”. So she felt that our current “Faith” should be named Feather because her sister is Fin.
Then I went on to explain and send my deepest regret to all the doll lovers out there because we did did not give them an insight as to what does FIN really means to Domuya. Caused when we launched Fin, it was during a difficult period in our company and it is the same time when our cooperation with Team Avalon marks an end. Hence, we intend to launch Fin, which is supposedly the last doll release with TAS and it meant “The End”. But the difficult time has past, and now Domuya is independent and we wish to continue striving and bring our products to the next level. Domuya has always been trying to stay Original and Creative and hence, we hope to get the support from all the doll lovers around the world! And with these “fight” down the road, how can we forget about our Faith right? Hence, instead of Feather, our doll is called “Faith”! And Patti won the competition because she sparks off the idea.
So with such a meaning event at the BJDC, Faith was later sold through Xmas as a promotional package and indeed swept many doll lovers off the ground just like her sister!
And then, I went on to award the lucky bidder for OOAK Azziza – The Forest Witch (Dreaming Version). He too had a touching story! He bidded her and gave it to his wife for her birthday/anniversary. I am sorry, I can’t remember which one, but I do know that he is very sweet! I am seen him walking up and down the room to increase his bids a few time! All these, just for his wife! (^^) Then at the end of the day, we bidded our farewell and took some memorial pictures!
I am making a sacrifice here. I’ve looked terrible in all the pictures but I still want to put them up because the event is too meaningful inorder for me trying to be selfish right here and not put up the picture for all the doll lovers out there to see how marvelous this event has been! In the picture above, Patti’s husband, Bucky has been a wonderful MC! He gave a hilarious speech and it just shows how supportive he has been in Patti’s hobby and how hobby brings out the love in one another and love is in the air and it simply can be felt and the whole ballroom’s atmosphere is almost bursting with love, happiness and laughter!
Lastly, my farewell picture with the sales manager of Elfdoll, Ms Cholong and husband. Both of them have always been friendly and I just want to say, its good meeting them again in BJDC and we hope to have more chances of meeting up! Thank you once again to everyone who has attended this event – BJDC 2008. Because without any of you, I am sure everything would be different! It will not be as complete as what it has been. For those who I didn’t mentioned your names here, please do not “pinned me down”. Keke~~~ It’s just that, I do not want to bore my readers with all my name listing! But I am sure you know who you are as it can’t be any better for me making new friends and meeting old friends across the globe! I hope you guys have enjoy reading and Till the next time we meet, Take Care!
With Love, Domuya
